Public Input

Second Public Open House: September 12, 2022.

A second public open house was held September 12 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Union Bank & Trust lobby on O Street downtown. Based on positive feedback from the first open house, the big ideas became project goals and guiding design principles as the project team worked to refine the concepts.

Design Narrative

The design narrative begins to weave together the public insights and key findings into a vision for the corridors. How can a word like “cultivation” change the way we think about our city’s core creators and designing spaces for them to thrive? Understanding how Lincoln’s desire for something deeper than aesthetic changes translates to design gravity and a connected aesthetic when creating a more livable and inviting downtown.

Corridor Look Books

Inspirational images influence the direction of the design with materials, plants and trees, art, furniture and lighting. Each street corridor is developing its own look and feel while remaining connected to the space around it.

Corridor Concepts

Refined concepts for each corridor were presented, each with options to accomplish the Big Ideas and Opportunities from the first open house. Click each of the links below to view concepts for each corridor segment.

First Public Open House: July 12, 2022

The project team hosted the first opportunity for public input at an open house meeting July 12 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Jayne Snyder Trails Center. At the meeting, the project team presented the location, schedule, initial survey results and key insights, big ideas based on those insights, concept diagrams, and ideas for downtown icons and photo-worthy moments.

Based on initial information gathered by the project team, big ideas and opportunities started to come together. They are summarized below - view them all in the Big Ideas and Opportunities document or each one separately below for a more detailed explanation of each idea.

Big Ideas and Opportunities

Composite analysis: a conceptual view of how downtown could be organized.

Concept Diagrams

Keeping in mind those big ideas and opportunities, concept diagrams were developed to look at how different pieces of the streetscape like planters, trees, parking and open space could work together.

Iconic Lincoln

The key insights suggest that there should be moments or locations downtown that reminds visitors where they are – something iconic and photo-worthy that represents Lincoln.
